Hartstoppers in great comeback fuelled by dead man’s fingers                16/02/2017

Result: Headliners 446    Hartstoppers 462  win by 16

No, it’s not a reference to the sausage and chips provided by the excellent Bull’s Head owners, but a nod to a rum new to us that we feel pushed us on to one of the greatest comebacks in Hartstoppers history!

To be honest, though funny, it was a fantastic team spirit, never say die attitude, and a large degree of our unpredictable unpredictability that gave us the win.

The first 4 hands saw us steadily losing ground to be 28 down after 4 hands. Time for something extraordinary! Popeye had his spinach, but we discovered the excellent rum called Dead Man’s Fingers! It started with a sniff, then a taste, and before we knew it we had a new lease of life.

Stickups flowed as quickly as the rum. We pulled back 13 of the 28 in the 5th hand to be 15 down with 2 to go. Then another 11 back on the 6th to be 4 behind going into the last. Headliners left us 71 to win on the last.

Had we ever hit such a target? Don’t know. Bruce started with a 12, Bomber with a 9 to give us a solid start. Then the fireworks began. The King of Flair hit a 16, and not to be outdone, the son of KOF hit 17!

Victory was close. Juan had a chance at a stickup to take the alley record but unfortunately missed it but still got a fantastic score of 78.

What a win! We celebrated with more Dead Man’s Fingers. One for the record books.

Top score - Alan Fowler 78                      Top Team - Hartstoppers
